I Hearts Technology.

I think I've talked about my obsession with my iPhone and all the wonders that it does.  So I wanted to talk a little more about an app that I'm amazed by.

Cyclemeter!
Because I'm alone when I ride, even though I'm surrounded by houses, I carry my phone with me.  There's been one time in the last month or so that I didn't have it and I felt incredibly off.  I also consistently misplace the holster and end up shoving it down the back of my pants, so never ask to use it, mkay?  The idea is that if I get bucked off and break my arm, Siri will be able to help me call my husband.  And then I'll take instagram photos of the broken arm and my fully-tacked horse eating grass while I wait for the ambulance.  (Side note:  do you think the EMTs would be willing to help untack a horse in such a situation?)

Okay, so back to the app:  I track my rides using Cyclemeter, an app initially geared towards cyclists.  I've used a ton of others for tracking my running and stuff, but Cyclemeter has a specific option of selecting "horseback riding."  (I'm pretty sure a couple apps have this, but whatever.)
See horsie in the top right?
I'm not sure that this would work well for y'all fancy-pants riders with indoors (jealous), but definitely functional for those of us doing laps in the sun or hitting up the trails.  I'm not going to say that it's a 100% perfect and that I never have any problems, but the algorithms that they use to track are considerably more advanced than others I've seen on the market.

Another neat function is the reports.  Cyclemeter doesn't have a website to access information, but you can pull all that from it.  For example:  since the start of 2013, I have ridden 54 times for a total of 29 hours, 49 minutes and 40 seconds and 98.64 miles.  I've also only run 6 times, which is all sorts of depressing.

More details than you'd ever need.
Stuff.
And options to add in a heartrate monitor and a bike tracker thingy!
It also plops all this information on your calendar, so if you're hopelessly unable to remember details (me), you can access your calendar and see what days you really rode last week versus the days that you just went out and petted the pony.

IDRATE: I DRANK WATER. AND THEN I DRANK MORE WATER. AND THEN I GOT SOME SHITTY-ASS COUPONS THAT I THINK I COULD HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERWEBS MYSELF. the end.

  2. Very cool! I'll have to check if the app I use to track my runs will track my horseback rides. (It has an option to insert time spent riding horses, but I'm not sure if it's just 'how many minutes did you spend doing this' or if it actually lets you track.)

    1. I can't remember what made me think, "Hey, let's chart me walking in circles," but I appreciate having the data now. I love data. MyFitnessPal (nutrition/calorie tracker) also has an option to enter in 'minutes spent riding'.
