A and I got up kinda-sorta early on Saturday to go to her barn. I'd brought breeches, socks, and half chaps. I had some shoes that I felt would be sturdy enough for riding.
Here's the (first) really cool thing about A's barn: it's within walking distance of her flat. She left D with a set of spare keys and instructions on her washer (because, oh my god, wash at every opportunity) and told him to make himself at home. And we went on the short walk to her barn.
Walk out of a neighborhood, and bam. Ponies. |
This was adorable. "Hey, Mom's here!" |
Nancy. |
Kika. |
Nancy giving me a well-deserved side eye. Smart pony. |
Blurry from the dslr because I took it with me! |
A pointing out the pony-eating tarps. |
Tarps. See how the road goes left and there's a break in the woods on the straight? We went in the woods. |
Pretty steep for this coastal Georgia girl. |
A said to let Nancy pick her path and that "little" mare was amazing. |
Take a moment to appreciate how ghetto I am and how nice A's stuff is. |
We spent about a hour in the woods and passed some mushroom-pickers and a few other riders. Seriously, it was like we were in a novel about horseback riders.
When we got back to the barn and dismounted, A gave me a tour. She really, really needs to share about her barn (with a map!), because it was huge and immaculate and had so many amenities. Of course, I made friends.
"Screw you, stranger." |
"Oh." |
"Cookies?" |
Kika, checking things out. |
I loved this little pony! So much personality! |
And Kika is a kitty cat. Affection on her terms!
Scritches. |
I'm absolutely indebted to A for giving me this experience! I cannot thank her enough! One day, we'll reciprocate. :)

ReplyDeleteYou are too kind in your generous description of the two invaders of personal space (aka Kika & Nancy), the close up headshots make me laugh so hard. You could hardly snap your photos as i couldn't keep them both distracted. If i was faffing with one the other was all up in your grill.
ReplyDeleteI am so honoured you boh took the slight detour on your European tour to come visit us, you were awesome house guests and it was so fab to meet you in person when I honestly thought I never would. What with literally living on another continent.
Please come back whenever and as often as you like there is still so much of Lux i didn't show you guys! For such a tiny country it is steeped in history and has plenty sweeping views into neighbouring countries and much more WWI & II sights and battle fields, even trenches remain not far away in Belgium and France. Perks of being in the heart of those historical events i guess.
If anyone is ever in my neck of the woods please do stop by my blog to leave a comment and we'll sort out email details and organise a free bed & breakfast set up for any potential blogger visitors! ☺☺☺☺
If you want there can be poneh rides included in the experience ;-)
What a FUN meetup!
